The earlier the better when it comes to abortions.
It’s best to have the abortion as early in the pregnancy as possible. Almost all abortions are done in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Early abortions are safer and cheaper, and it is easier to find a doctor or clinic to do it.
You may also be able to take medication to end your pregnancy if you go to a doctor early. Here is more information about the different kinds of abortion, including medication abortion.
If you wait until too late in your pregnancy, you may not be able to get an abortion. You have the right to an abortion at any time. But you can only get a very late abortion if continuing the pregnancy would put your life or health at risk. In California, an aboriton may be performed at or after viability (which is usually about 24 weeks pregnant) only if your life or health are endangered.
