Training & Education

NCYL’s Teen Health Rights Initiative provides training on adolescent health care law, including minor consent, confidentiality, child abuse reporting, and other adolescent health issues.

Some of the commonly asked questions addressed in our trainings include:

  • When may providers share health care information with a parent?
  • When must providers report consensual sexual activity to child abuse authorities?
  • Who may consent for a patient’s care when neither parent is available?
  • When may adolescents seek confidential reproductive health care services?
  • What are the current laws affecting adolescents’ access to abortion services?
  • How does California law and practice in this area compare to other states?
  • What are my HIPAA obligations to my adolescent patients?

For a training calendar or to schedule a training, please contact the Initiative's Director, Rebecca Gudeman.
