Mental health counseling involves speaking with therapists (or counselors), who are people who are trained to listen to and help a person work through problems or questions he or she may have in life. People choose to talk to a therapist for a lot of reasons.
Some examples include:
- when they are feeling down or stressed
- when they are having trouble sleeping or concentrating in school or work
- when they are facing a stressful situation and don’t know how to handle it
- when they need help talking to family or working through problems with family or in their relationship
