Your baby will NOT go into foster care just because you or the baby’s other parent is in foster care.   You are the parent and have all the rights and responsibilities for caring for your child.

Your baby can only be taken into foster care if they can show that you have abused or neglected your child.  The child welfare agency cannot use your age alone or the fact that you are in foster care to put your child in foster care, and the agency cannot use information from your foster case history against you. In fact, in 2015, California passed a new law protecting parenting foster youth from just this.  If you have questions or concerns about this, you can talk to your lawyer or social worker for more information.
