Anyone who wants to adopt in California must go through a “home study” with a licensed adoption agency.

The home study includes

  • interviews with a social worker
  • background checks
  • child-abuse clearance
  • home inspection
  • letters of reference
  • medical exams
  • income and employment status

It is impossible to know how adoptive parent(s) will parent your child. But if the agency does not think that they are likely to be fit parents, they will not be allowed to adopt.
